Amid his suspension for the 2022 NFL season after betting on games during the 2021 season, Calvin Ridley has turned to Twitter to attempt to provide a little more context surrounding the suspension and to simply share his thoughts

Ridley, who was suspended for at least a full season, tweeted four times in a single hour about the ban, which was first disclosed by Adam Schefter.

“I placed a total stake of 1500. I don’t have an issue with gambling,” (3:00 PM · Mar 7, 2022) Ridley sent the first tweet of the afternoon following the suspension shortly after the news of the suspension surfaced on Twitter.

He posted another update only five minutes later.

At that point, I couldn’t even watch football. (3:05 PM · Mar 7, 2022) Shortly after, Ridley posted once more, making it his third post in only ten minutes.

(3:09 PM March 7, 2022) “Just gone be healthier when I come back,” After a little more than thirty minutes, Ridley posted once more, admitting his error and mentioning the ban in detail for the first time.

“I know I made a mistake, but I get a year, hehe,” (3:41 PM · Mar 7, 2022) Ridley posted once more in less than an hour, but this time in a different way.

My character of me is known to those who know me (4:22 PM on March 7, 2022).

Ridley has not yet posted another update since the publication of this story, although it wouldn’t be unexpected if he did.

In a press release that was published, the Atlanta Falcons stated that they were informed of the probe last month. It is yet unknown whether Ridley will stay in Atlanta or continue playing for the team.

Before the news came, teams had expressed interest in Ridley; nevertheless, it is difficult to imagine that Ridley will still have any trade value following the suspension. It is scarcely a good idea to trade for a player who won’t be able to play for at least a year.

Ridley has three days to challenge the punishment, as per the NFL’s rule. Ridley would be able to submit an application for reinstatement beginning on February 15, 2023, if it were not granted. Ridley winning an appeal would be unexpected given the NFL’s rigorous gambling policy.

As Adam Schefter noted shortly after the news broke, Ridley is the second football player to be suspended from the NFL for gambling in the twenty-first century. There are already five such players.

Calvin Ridley has taken to Twitter throughout his suspension from the NFL for the 2022 season

  • Throughout his ban from the NFL for the 2022 season due to placing bets on sports during the 2021 season, Calvin Ridley has used Twitter to both provide additional background and just voice his opinions.
  • Ridley was already past the point of no return when Adam Schefter broke the news of his sentence. Due to the ban, he had already missed at least one season.
  • Shortly after the ban was issued, Ridley sent his first tweet of the day, which was also his first tweet of the afternoon.
  • Ridley hasn’t posted anything new since this article was published, but it’s not impossible that he will now.
  • The Atlanta Falcons claim that they were made aware of the investigation last month in a news release. It’s still unclear whether Ridley will remain in Atlanta.
  • The NFL said that Ridley had three days to file an appeal on his sentence. If his present request is turned down, Ridley will be able to submit a new application for reinstatement on February 15, 2023. If Ridley were to prevail in his appeal, it would be astonishing given the NFL’s strict gambling policies.
  • Teams expressed interest in trading for Ridley before the news of his suspension broke. But his trade worth has significantly decreased. Purchasing a player who won’t be able to play for at least a year is not ideal.

Calvin Ridley turns to Twitter amid announced suspension

Calvin Ridley took to Twitter in the middle of his 2022 NFL season punishment after placing bets on games in the 2021 season to attempt and explain the suspension and just share his opinions.
In the course of the hour, Ridley tweeted four times on Twitter about the ban, which was originally reported by Adam Schefter and cost him the entire season.

After a suspension report surfaced, Ridley came back to Twitter; this was his first message of the afternoon following the suspension.

After just over thirty minutes, Ridley posted yet again, acknowledging that he was wrong and directly noting the actual suspension for the first time.

It wouldn’t be unexpected to see Ridley receive another update, despite the fact that he hasn’t provided one since this piece.

In a press release, the Atlanta Falcons stated that they were informed of the probe last month. It is yet unknown if Ridley will remain in Atlanta or continue playing for the team.

Ridley has three days to file an appeal of the ban, as per the NFL ruling. If Ridley is not content, he will have until February 15th, 2023 to ask for a renewal. Given the NFL’s rigorous gambling rules, Ridley winning the appeal would be unexpected.

Before the news broke, the teams urged Ridley to end his season, but it’s unlikely that Ridley will still have any commercial value following the suspension. Doing favors for a player who hasn’t played for at least a year is not a smart idea.

Ridley joins a group of now five football players who have been suspended from the NFL due to gambling, as Adam Schefter posted shortly after the news broke, with Ridley’s being just the second in the 21st century.
